The K.I.D.S Place Program Information

Program Description:

The K.I.D.S Place is an early learning and child care center in McLouth, Kansas. We provide a nurturing environment which supports children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs. The K.I.D.S Place offers care to children ages 2-weeks up to 14 years.

Infant Program (2 weeks to 12 months):
Teachers will follow feeding and nap schedules that are individualized based on the baby. Open communication between parents and teachers is encouraged and emphasized to ensure that each child’s needs are met. Age and developmentally appropriate curriculum will also be implemented to enhance the development of the child’s motor, social and cognitive skills. The infant program is licensed for up to 6 infants. A ratio of 1 staff member per 3 children is maintained at all times.

Toddler Program (12 months to 3 years):
Once children begin to walk independently, they are graduated to the Toddler Program. Here, teachers encourage children to learn by exploration through play-centered curriculum that is enriching as well as fun. Teachers also work on self-help tasks, such as eating and toileting, to encourage independence. The Toddler Program is licensed for up to 10 children with a ratio of 1 to 5 in the Toddler 1 room and for up to 14 children with a ratio of 1 to 7 in the Toddler 2 room.

Pre-K Program (3 years to school age):
Teachers will develop and follow curriculum which help children develop social and pre-academic skills necessary for their successful transition to Kindergarten. While the primary focus will be to develop those pre-academic skills, emphasis will still be placed on providing developmentally appropriate play-based early childhood education that is engaging, creative and inspires a love of learning. The Pre-K room will have a maximum of 20 children, with a ratio of 1 teacher per 12 children.

School Age and Summer Program:
Before and after school activities as well as full time summer programs are offered for school-aged children up to 12 years of age. Before and after school programs will provide children with a fun, relaxing atmosphere where they can unwind after a full day at school. There will be organized games, outdoor time, arts and crafts, board games, stories and music, etc. While there will be planned activities, children will have the opportunity to choose what they would like to do. Homework can also be worked on during this free play time. The Summer Program will provide school-aged children with an educational yet fun experience. Along with fun activities similar to the after-school program, children will also get to go on field trips to the park, library, the zoo, museums, pool, etc. The School Age and Summer Program will have a maximum of 16 children enrolled.

Intervention Clinic:
Autism intervention services are provided in one-on-one settings with opportunities for social skills practice and inclusion with typically developing peers.  See Treatment Services for more information regarding ABA programming.

Infants will be on an individualized feeding schedule. Formula and specialized meals will be provided from the home. We will provide snacks throughout the day, as needed, as well as solid foods for those who are near 12 months of age and are developmentally ready for that stage.

All other all-day programs will be provided with breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. All meals and snacks will be prepared by our kitchen cook on the premises.

As the school is walking distance from the center, children in the School Age program will be escorted by an identified staff member safely to and from school
